Lumbar Stress Fractures
A stress fracture is a break in the bone (usually an area called the pars inter-articularis) which most often develops as a result of repetitive stress and overuse associated with sports participation – particularly sports involving lumbar spine extension and rotation. Pars Bone stress is a common injury in adolescent athletes which develops over time with excessive loads and inadequate rest and can progress to a complete fracture through the bone if not identified early. Adolescents are uniquely vulnerable as their musculoskeletal system is still developing. Symptoms are generally present during/post activity and improve with rest only to recur again with resumption of activity.
